Our Process
Art Of Selection
Each piece of hand-selected lumber arrives at our Heath, Texas studio, chosen not just for its quality but for its unique character. The selection process is an art in itself. Guided by the wood’s age, color, grain, and natural variations. These subtle details shape the soul of every cutting board, influencing its beauty, balance, and individuality. We begin by milling the wood to precise dimensions, and then carefully cut each segment to set the stage for the next step. Every piece then is labeled, ensuring its perfect placement in the final composition.
Beauty Of Structure
At the heart of our process lies an obsession with detail. Every board is designed with an alternating grain orientation, a technique that counteracts natural wood movement caused by humidity shifts. Ensuring a stable, enduring form. Each piece is also book-matched with its twin, enhancing the organic flow of the pattern. The angled cuts are meticulously planned to amplify the beauty of our signature houndstooth designs. This level of precision and craftsmanship is what makes a Key Home Goods cutting board truly unique.
A Finishing Touch
Once the creative vision is realized, the final assembly begins. Each row is bonded using Titebond III, a premium EPA-approved food-safe adhesive renowned for its durability. The rows are then refined to their final dimensions before being joined together to form a flawless composition. After precise trimming, the surface is meticulously sanded until velvety smooth. Finally, the board is treated with food-grade mineral oil and sealed with a protective blend of Texas-sourced beeswax and mineral oil. This final touch enhances the wood’s resilience against moisture and creates a naturally hydrophobic shield. Preserving both the board’s integrity and its timeless elegance.
